In the 48 year history of our society there are very few members who have given such a long period of distinguished service to our committee.
Jane and her family moved to Petersfield 30 years ago and to integrate herself within the community she joined several local societies and fortunately for us Petersfield Area Historical Society was one of them. Within just a few years she was on the committee as the Programme Secretary. That was 25 years ago and with just a couple of years break she has continued in this vitally important role ever since.
Somehow Jane manages to conjure up eight speakers a year and in addition arranges three to four outings to places of historical interest. Fortunately for us because of her love of food the visits always include the opportunity for a good pub lunch or afternoon tea.
Jane has always appreciated the importance of social contact and has organised the drinks bar which has been a feature at meetings over the last few years.
Even during the Covid pandemic she managed to organise one local visit within the rule of 6. But it is not just visits and speakers, Jane helps with the distribution of the bulletins and during lockdown helped and contributed to the monthly newsletter and its distribution.
There are many ways to describe Jane but perhaps the best is ‘A Gem’.
